My engineering instincts were shaped by physical prototypes before they were shaped by polished software. That makes me more comfortable with constraints, iteration, and messy interfaces between theory and reality.
The robotics and fabrication work keeps the software honest: systems have to fit through real manufacturing, power, cost, and reliability limits.
